Once a busy route between London Waterloo and Alton (via Guildford) closed in 1937. A faster more direct route from London to Alton (and beyond) via the rapidly expanding nearby military base of Aldershot in 1870 and reduced the importance of the route via Ash Green and Tongham.
The route was truncated in the 1950s and closed completely in 1960.
The route now forms part of the “Christmas Pie Trail” (named after a local village of that name)!
