Judging by the amount of steel, this is going to be yet another pretty substantial building - crammed into a very small plot of land. Corner of Santa Monica and Adriatico Street, Ermita, Manila - December 2019

  9. From the album: Welcome, to the Shinkansen!

Another awesome train at Kokura Station. (I used to be a train-spotter, you know? Does it show?!!) ? ? ? Shinkansen 新幹線 (pronounced: Shin-Kan-Sen) refers to the rail system, not the trains that run on it! 新幹線 translates, word-for-word as "New trunk line" - in other words, it's a dedicated high speed rail network. When I was in school, we used to call the trains that ran on the Shinkansen, "Bullet Trains" (Some people still do!) Here's an East-bound or "Up" train at Kokura Station in Kita Kyushu - on a very brief stop before hurtling off towards Tokyo.

Image courtesy of artfreaks.com member Noel L. Laxamano. He writes: "I never thought that a Mike Herrera original was hanging in our living room! Here is his rendition of everyday Filipino activities in the early 19th century in the infamous Binondo, Manila. The work is oil on canvas, measuring 30in (height) x 50in (length)..."

The photo was actually taken on New Year's Day, 2019. They always have a chorus somewhere in the arrivals area at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila (MNL) around the festive season. And very nice it is too when you have just got off the plane!

Pink Tropical Water Lilies (or "Lotus," if you prefer!) These beautiful lilies grow in a ditch beside the road in Soi Sukjai, between Soi 40 and Soi 42 off the Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok. Apparently, they were just thrown in there, years ago, by the owner of the house behind were they grow. Like most tropical water lilies, the flowers only open at night...

Standard fare for me in Bangkok - especially when I have a hangover! Love Scene is a geat little place. Very close to Soi Cowboy. Directly opposite a 7-11, if anyone is interested! Just look for the two statues of ladies making the wai gesture outside the entrance. Go down the little passageway beside the kitchen. 'Looks a bit dodgy but well worth it when you get inside!

My still beautiful old Siberian Husky, Meimei with Maru - and Luis Reyes's right foot! Maru is my lovely Labrador Cross, here in the Philippines. He might have a bit of Pit Bull in him? Both of them are seen here, relaxing at the store after their evening walk.

My Siberian Husky, Mei-mei is the unlikely new companion of my lovely pit bull-terrier, Shoubi. I couldn't stand seeing her couped-up in a tiny cage in a pet shop here in the Philippines. After three months away on work, I was dismayed to find that she was still in the same tiny cage in the same pet shop and I decided it was time for her to get out of there! After several months living in a cage that she could hardly turn around in, needless to say, Mei-mei is now making the most out of her new found freedom to run around and enjoy herself. (In fact, she can be a bit of a nuisance at times - but despite her neurotic habits, she is extremely loving and very lovable!) I couldn't help smiling at the way she found this little mound to rest on. The look on her face seems to be saying, "Look at me! I'm on top of a big mountain!!"?!!!

(I'm not sure where the crooked tail comes from but it in no way alters the fact that Benj is one of the most handsome dogs that I have ever come across!) Here he is, full of energy and really enjoying a day out on M.o.D land at Whitehill in Hampshire, UK

Shoubi, a really soppy Pit Bull Terrier bitch that I bought from one of my neighbors here in the Philippines. (I had been taking care of her for the previous year, in order to save her from being kept couped up in a tiny little cage... By the time her previous owners decided to sell her, I had already become quite attached to Shoubi and I couldn't stand the thought of her being bought by someone else and spending the rest of her life on a short piece of chain - or in another small cage...) Eddie Boy is the guy who looks after Shoubi for me when I am away and he often takes her for walks even when I am home. I think Shoubi loves Eddie more than me - but that's OK... Just as long as she is happy!

One of the guard dogs at the Madilosa family residence in Davao del Sur, Mindanao, Philippines. (I sometimes stay with the madilosa family when I am in that part of the country.) Total "askal" (aso kalye - lit. "street dog") this one! Very nervous at first and took a long time before it really got used to me. I was eventually able to take it for short walks but it really didn't like being too far from familiar territory

I don't think the long-haired one has a name - I just call him "Scruffy!" The short-haired one is known as "Pandak" - which is Tagalog for "Shorty!" (He's obviously got a bit of daschund in him)
