Have some sand!! A boy and his dog - Dhen-dhen and Pandak
smb posted a gallery image in Members Albums - Index Page
From the album: Davao del Sur, Mindanao, Philippines
Dhen-dhen, a young Filipino boy at play with his best friend, a mongrel dog called "Pandak" "Pandak" is a Tagalog word, which roughly translates as "Shorty!" I remember that these two were always the best of friends. Dhen-dhen obviously seems to think that Pandak might like some sand?!! The photo was taken while staying with a Filipino family on a remote farm in Mindanao in the Southern part of the Philippines. Lolo Madilosa, a very friendly old Filipino farm labourer, sitting on his motorcycle - and looking very proud too! (He looks like one of the local "riders!!!") Lolo Madilosa, a very friendly old Filipino farm labourer, sitting impatiently on his bike. The reason for that angry glare is that he has been waiting for about 15 minutes for his youngest daughter, Jelyn, to get ready for school! (Needless to say, when Jelyn finally appeared, she came out with the most charming smile on her sweet face! She know's that she is his little princess and she can get away with being just a few minutes late!) A Filipino farm laborer at the Madilosa family's farm-house. He is calling out for them to sell him a cigarette or two from their tindahan. (A "tindahan" is a family-run micro-store. You find these things all over the Philippines. Almost every street has at least one of them. This one is in a tiny hamlet that can only be accessed via a track, down through the woods!) The Madilosa's are a very kind family that I stay with whenever I get the chance to visit them at the farm that they work in a remote village in Mindanao; in the Southern part of the Philippines. -

A carabao (water buffalo) feeding on riverbank grass, near the farm that the Madilosa family till. The last time I was there, (only 6 months before,) what is now the river was nothing more than a stagnant creek. That all changed during a recent flash-flood when a near-by river decided to change it's course and take up a previous route that it had long-since abandoned... The Madilosa's are a very kind family that I stay with whenever I get the chance to visit them at the farm that they work in a remote village in Mindanao; in the Southern part of the Philippines. -
