Paco Gorospe - Oil on canvas painting - Mending Fishing Nets (untitled)
smb posted a gallery image in Members Albums - Index Page
From the album: Paco Gorospe Paintings
This image of a painting by the late Filipino artist, Paco Gorospe, was very kindly supplied by Lisa Arenberg, who writes: "This original painting was given to me in 1985 by an American who lived in the Philippines in the late 1970's.; It measures 25 1/2 x 25 1/2 x 1 3/4 and is in a black and silver frame.; The painting is in perfect condition, on canvas with its original wooden frame backing.; There are even dots of his oil paint on the back where he must have had paint on his fingers while stretching the canvas. Paco Gorospe was born in Binondo Manila in 1939 and sadly passed away in 2003.; He was a self-made artist affiliatted with the "Ermita School".; His works have been exhibited at the Washington State Fair, the New York World Fair, and in Switzerland , Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, and Denmark. This painting may be inspired by his time with the Yakan tribe, the Bagobos or the Tausugs in Visayas and Mindanao.; He frequently painted the minorities he lived amongst and who he came to love. "-

GREAT TRUTHS THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED: 1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats. 2) When your Mum is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair. 3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person. 4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato. 5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food. 6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair. 7) Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time. You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk. 9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts. 10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap. GREAT TRUTHS THAT ADULTS HAVE LEARNED: 1) Raising teenagers is like nailing jelly to a tree. 2) Wrinkles don't hurt. 3) Families are like fudge...mostly sweet, with a few nuts. 4) Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground. 5) Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside. 6) Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fibre, not the toy. GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT GROWING OLD 1) Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional. 2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get. 3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down there. 4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster. 5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions. 6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician. 7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone. THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE: 1) You believe in Santa Claus. 2) You don't believe in Santa Claus. 3) You are Santa Claus. 4) You look like Santa Claus. SUCCESS: At age 4 success is . . . not piddling in your pants. At age 12 success is . . . having friends. At age 17 success is . . . having a drivers licence. At age 35 success is . . . having money. At age 50 success is . . . having money. At age 70 success is . . . having a drivers licence. At age 75 success is . . . having friends. At age 80 success is . . . not piddling in your pants.

BMW's Invention Vs God's Invention (joke) An engineer of the BMW Corporation died and went to heaven. At the gates St. Peter told him, "Since you've been such a good man and your vehicles have changed the world, your reward is, you can hang out with anyone you want in Heaven". The Engineer thought about it for a minute and then said, "I want to hang out with God." St. Peter took him to the Throne Room, and introduced him to God. He then asked God, "Hey, aren't you the inventor of woman?" God said, "Ah, yes." "Well," said the engineer, "professional to professional, you have some major design flaws in your invention. 1. There's too much inconsistency in the front-end protrusion. 2. It chatters constantly at high speeds. 3. Most of the rear ends are too soft and wobble too much. 4. The intake is placed way to close to the exhaust. And finally, 5. The maintenance costs are outrageous." "Hmmmm, you may have some good points there," replied God, "Hold on." God went to his Celestial super computer, typed in a few words and waited for the results. The computer printed out a slip of paper and God read "Well, it may be true that my invention is flawed," God said to the engineer, "but according to these numbers, More men are riding my invention than yours."

Michael Booth, in Just As Well I'm Leaving , describes Hans Christian Andersen's travels thus: (page 90) "Throughout his life, he would travel to stay a step ahead of his sorrows, his memories bringing little comfort." I used to think that travelling was only for the adventurous but lately, I'm starting to come around to the idea that travel is more a form of escape - certainly in my own case? See also: http://www.artfreaks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=62 , where we get another side to Hans Christian andersen's travelling and a famous poem by Jose Rizal (and a load of rubbish by yours truly!!) I've also started a bit of a travelogue of my own at: http://artfreaks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=69 What do you think about travelling? Do you like to travel - or stay close to home? If you like travelling to far off places, what spurs you on?

"To travel is to live!" "Oh travel, travel! that is the happiest fate! That is why we all travel... even the dead in their silent graves fly with the earth around the sun. Yes, to travel ia an obsession of the whole universe..." Hans Christian Andersen Quoted by Michael Booth in Just As Well I'm Leaving

Every time I step out into the streets of Ermita, Manila - day or night, makes no difference - someone will approach me with a box of pills that they think I may be in need of! :-s I DON'T need them, OK?! Every time I open my e-mails, what I see is mostly SPAM - with such subject headings as this: "Don't surrender to the life. Use Super Viagra!!" Surrender to WHAT life?? amazon.com are a great source for books on learning how to paint and learning how to draw With one of the largest ranges available on the internet, great discounts and worldwide delivery, you can't go wrong! Another great place to look is http://www.artinthemaking.com/ with "magazines, books and vacations for artists by artists from around the world."
-
I make no secret of the fact that I am an affiliate of amazon.com... Well, I use them a lot for my own online shopping needs and I am more than happy to recommend them. And, of course, having spent years pouring money into my own website, (artfreaks.com,) it would be lovely to at least be able to break even with the cost of the server someday? Now... We all need to be able to make a living - and so much the better if we can do so, by making some money out of doing the things that we enjoy doing! If you are having any ideas about making some money by selling stock images of your digital photography, this might be a good book to read, for a little bit of grounding on the subject, before you start: Digital Stock Photography: How to Shoot and Sell And when you are ready to start selling your stock images, you might like to check this website out: www.Crestock.com

This one was doing the rounds of the internet a while back. I've just been clearing out my "in box" out but I wanted to save this one somewhere... [Edited...] 28/11/2019... Well, I did - and now it's gone!! I would have deleted the whole topic but I rather like the "Guest" post from my son, below... Those were the days when youngsters were deserting these kind of Forums-based websites in their droves. Well... artfreaks.com lives on
