  1. Finally made it to the ship... Baggage to follow - when they find it!

      Are you on vacation?

No, I am working. And very fortunately for me, the ship was in port for a few day's before we sailed - otherwise I would have been on here for two months with hardly a change of clothes. As it was, my bags finally turned-up just before we sailed, so I am OK now...

  2. Hello and welcome to ArtFreaks.com!

  3. Made it as far as Amsterdam... Time for some sashimi, cold sake and then maybe a glass or three of Kirin Ichiban!

  5. I'd love to have my own little art gallery. But it would be more of a free coffee shop for friends, rather than a commercial enterprise... I can't even cover my costs with websites - let alone think about making any money out of a physical art gallery. I love art galleries in Manila. The ones I have been to have friendly staff/owners and they are relaxing places to visit - and I've never been presured into buying anything.
  6. Thanks Papadan. It's good to know that my time, efforts, thoughts and money have not been entirely wasted!
  7. Version 01

    522 downloads

A view, looking through the kitchen window, of a lovely countryside cottage garden with a nice little fishpond - which, of course, just had to have some lovely koi swimming in it!! My first ever pastel painting that was done purely from imagination, with no photographic reference material whatsoever.

Just a practice pastel painting that I made of a pretty young Filipina girl, from one of her facebook photos.

  10. I just changed a few settings in the Downloads module: 1) Full Members should now be able to upload files directly, without having to wait for Admin approval 2) It should now actually be possible for Full Members to set a price on their paid downloads. (Needless to say, an Admin can download for free. This is necessary in order to check the file for content/viruses or whatever...) So you might see the odd download showing-up in the stats and start wondering why you didn't get paid for it. If you have files already uploaded, it should also now be possible for you to edit them and set a per download price. Like I said in an earlier post... Let me know how you get on with this... 3) I have reduced the screenshot image maximum file size from 1250Kb down to 350Kb. You will want to keep your screenshots on the small size to prevent them form being used instead of the Full High Resolution Download - which is what you get paid on!
  11. Though I do say this myself... I love the hair in this one. It's got that newly washed, not yet dry look about it that Filipina girls are so fond of showing-off whenever they leave the house!

    Come back!

  13. From the album: Some more recent pastel paintings

Amateur pastel portrait of a beautiful young Filpina girl. I promised to have a go at doing a portrait of Shy a long time ago. I struggled with this one... Anyway, here it is, for what it is worth. More practice needed. Oh well, I'll get there in the end. Either that, or find something more useful to do with my spare time! The original 1.7MB image file of this painting can be downloaded in the ArtFreaks.com Downloads module

    Shy 004

From the album: Have a go!

The fourth and final stage. At this point, I realized that the painting wasn't going to get any better with any more work. I probably would have spoiled the thing completely if I'd tried to do any more with it, so I just signed it and left it as it is.

    Shy 003

From the album: Have a go!

I like to try and get the face more-or-less finished before working on the hair last. This is just to ensure that any stray hairs end-up in front of the face.

    Shy 002

From the album: Have a go!

The basic colours are in-place now. One final spraying with fixative, then it is on to the detail

    Shy 001

From the album: Have a go!

After the initial sketch, I just filled-in with some background colour before giving it a quick spray with some museum grade varnish by way of a fixative

Anyone able to identify the artist? The signature looks to me like it is showing the year 1652... Can that be right?

  20. At least, former Chief Justice of the Philippines, Renato Corona was finally thrown out of office. wikipedia.org/wiki/Impeachment_of_Renato_Corona And that was a start. But, so far, it is a very long way away from Justice. Yes, it was a start. (Or it would have been, if the Filipino people were prepared to see this national disgrace through to the bitter end...) But what about the millions of dollars (and pesos - not to mention non-cash assets,) that Corona did not declare in his Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth? Is he now going to pay tax on that lot? Where did he get all that money? Can he prove that even one percent of it was aquired in legally-gotten gains? Arghhh...!! The forgiving nature of the Filipino people. "He has suffered enough by losing his job and being banned from holding public office for the rest of his life. Move on. FORGET!" There are other newer and more exciting things to worry about, than seeking justice for what the Chief Justice of the Philippines done to his country - and to the very name of the law and justic in his own country? One of the none too small problems with that, is that there will be no real progress in the Philippines until we start to see something even remotely resembly justice in the Philippines.
  21. Hello and welcome to ArtFreaks.com!

  22. Great website you have got there! I'd also suggest uploading a representative sample of your work here at ArtFreaks.com - just to generate more interest among our own members and the many regular guest visitors to this site. If you are planning to try selling downloads of your work in the Downloads module, make sure that you only post low resolution, (preferably water-marked,) copies of your work in the Gallery
