A short lived narrow gauge railway used to make its way across the Hogmoor Inclosure for military purposes. After closure and dismantling in the early years of the 20th Century, the route returned to nature, but is still clearly visible. Rowan Ash with berries, Oak and Scots Pine trees along with ferns and gorse now line the old route seen here looking towards the setting Sun.

Hunslet Tank Engine Number 98 “Royal Engineer” has arrived from Wooton at Smallbrook Junction. It has now run round its train and is awaiting the Signal to draw forward and then shunt back to return and couple to its train in the platform. This is on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway! The weather looks nice, but the wind was unseasonably cold for July 2024 with several heavy rain showers rattling through during the day!

Hogmoor Sunset and Bat Roost
Fuggletim posted a gallery image in Sunsets, sunrises, clouds and the sky
The Hogmoor Inclosure is a beautiful area of heathland in Hampshire England which after years of military use, was given over to the local council in 2016. The Inclosure is the home to many protected species of animals and one of these are bats. This is the Hogmoor Bat Roost at Sunset on a beautiful late Summer’s evening. This location also appears in this gallery in a shot taken in 2020.© Tim Penycate

This is the County boundary entering into West Sussex from Hampshire at Hammer. 3 x Counties meet in the locality but the actual boundary with the county of Surrey exists in the nearby forest to the North East. In the background of this shot, the incline to the railway bridge over the London to Portsmouth line can be seen.

County Boundary Hampshire/West Sussex
Fuggletim posted a gallery image in People, portraits and street scenes
There are over 40 x Counties in England. Just outside Haslemere, 3 of those come together in the village of Hammer. This is a picture of the sign coming from West Sussex into Hampshire. For a short time, this area had a sign saying “Hammer Bottom” which people kept stealing because of the innuendo!© Tim Penycate

Ash Green Station - Waiting for the train that will never come!
Fuggletim posted a gallery image in Transport and aviation
This is the old Farnham/Alton bound Platform at Ash Green (The Station is now a private house but this Platform is outside of the boundaries) looking towards Farnham. No passengers have used this Platform (Apart from an occasional Railtour) for 77 x years now (at the time of writing).© Tim Penycate

Once a busy route between London Waterloo and Alton (via Guildford) closed in 1937. A faster more direct route from London to Alton (and beyond) via the rapidly expanding nearby military base of Aldershot in 1870 and reduced the importance of the route via Ash Green and Tongham. The route was truncated in the 1950s and closed completely in 1960. The route now forms part of the “Christmas Pie Trail” (named after a local village of that name)!

Some unseasonably cold and wet days in the UK has seen heavy rain showers and strong Sunshine. A recent rain shower has passed and the Sun pitching in from the West creates a beautiful Rainbow above Whitehill in Hampshire. If there is truth about the “Crock of Gold” at the end of the Rainbow, then it is in the “Great Wall” Chinese takeaway! 😆

Several heavy rain showers have affected North Hampshire and Whitehill. The rain has passed, but the clouds that brought some of them are now backlit by the setting Sun. This picture is taken from the Bordon and Whitehill Relief Road which follows the course of the old Railway that used to pass through the area.
