Portsmouth Anglican Cathedral after the Storm
Fuggletim posted a gallery image in Buildings, architecture and cityscapes
Most cities in England have a Cathedral, but it is an often a mistaken belief that a city must have one to qualify as a city. It does not, and is actually dependent on whether a “Royal Charter” has been granted. Portsmouth is unusual insofar as it has 2 x Cathedrals; a Roman Catholic and and Anglican one. This is the Anglican one in area of the city known as “Old Portsmouth” and is seen here from Camber Dock after the storm clouds have passed over.© Tim Penycate

Guildford is regarded as the “County Town” of the County of Surrey in South East England. This view is taken from the ruins of Guildford Castle and looks across the town to the Cathedral on Stag Hill around 2 x miles away. Guildford is often mistakenly considered as a city as it has a Cathedral, but although the granting of city status has been applied for in the past, the Royal Warrant has never been given.
