London Waterloo Station and the London Eye
Fuggletim posted a gallery image in Transport and aviation
South Western Railway Class 450 Desiro 450 030 waits at London Waterloo to form the 2L49 16:45 to Basingstoke. The Driver has not yet arrived, but in the background an unidentified Class 458 Juniper arrives from Windsor & Elton Riverside. In the background the iconic London Eye and Art Deco Shell building can be seen.© Tim Penycate

Waiting for the journey which will not start!

A beautiful study of Island Line’s Unit 484 002 waiting at Ryde St Johns Road Station with the setting Sun casting its golden rays on the train and the wet track. After 2 x days of heavy rain, the track about a mile away is heavily flooded and sadly the train will be going nowhere for the rest of the day.© Tim Penycate

With the downs above Ventnor in the distance, Shanklin Station glows in the late Dusk. The Sun has gone, the temperature has dropped and the lights are on. A few passengers are waiting for the train back to Ryde Pier Head in the cold evening. Shanklin is the end of the line for trains on Island Line, but the railway once carried on another 5 x miles or so to Ventnor.

London Victoria Station - The old Parcel Office
smb posted a gallery image in Members Albums - Index Page
From the album: Bring Back the Trains!
Look for the place with the stone archway entrance to the left of the escalater - (which was out of service...) Now a currency exchange kiosk. In the days before next day deliveries to your home address, the Parcel Office at London Victoria would have been as busy and bustling as the rest of the station.-

On a dull Summer day, with a stopping train bound for London Waterloo in the background, a Buddleia bush in full beautiful bloom adorns the now abandoned Alton Platform. Buddleia grows like crazy and has beautiful and fragrant flowers which attract bees and other insects. It is very common across the UK railway network!

A Gleaming GWR Express Train at London Padington Station
smb posted a gallery image in Transport and aviation
Looking good! A positively gleaming train at London Padington station waiting to depart on a Great Western Railways express service to Bristol Templemeads. London Padington is, of course, the station from which Padington Bear set out on his world travels... (Or something like that?!!) Well, I don't know if Padington Station was where he started from but he certainly was there at some point... I once saw a picture of him there with his bag and a spare jar of marmalade for the journey!!- 1 comment

A cold January evening on the Isle of Wight, sees two passengers waiting for the train back to Ryde from Brading on Island Line. As part of major upgrade work on Island Line, Brading Station has been upgraded to have 2 x operational platforms again for the first time since the late 1980s.

From the album: Out and about in Somerset
With a motorcyclist enjoying a ride out on a fine summer's afternoon! Axbridge Station was one of the stops on the old Strawberry Line railway in Somerset, England. Now it sits alongside a busy road, the Axbridge By-pass, which was constructed along the route of the old railway in this location. Here you go...You can sign the petition, if you want! http://www.thestrawberryline.org.uk/index.php- 1 comment

Red Poppies and some other Clourful Flowers at Ropely Station
smb posted a gallery image in Landscapes and seascapes
Image courtesy of Tim Penycate, who writes: “Not so much an English country garden as an English country railway station with an English country garden attached! Some beautiful flowers brighten up a dull day at Ropley Station on the Mid Hants Railway!” The Midhants Railway, in the South of England, is otherwise known as the "Watercress Line." It is very popular with local tourists and day trippers who love to ride the trains which are hauled by some beautiful old preserved steam locomotives.© Tim Penycate
