  1. I was going to entitle this thread "Where are the Men of Vision", simply because the person that I had in mind was the late, great Sir Edward Watkin (26 September 1819 – 13 April 1901) - who, as far as I am concerned, was one of the last and, indisputably, among the greatest visionaries that this planet has ever known. You can do a Google search, just as easily as I can. But, just to make it easy for you, you can click on this, if you want to know more: Wikipedia - Sir Edward Watkin Frankly, I really don't mind whether the next great visionary - if ever there is one - is, female, male, gender neutral, LGBTQ (or whatever they call it) - as long as they revive HS2 and basically reroute it, as closely as humanly possible, along the route of the former London Extension of the Great Central Railway. All linked in to the Channel Tunnel, of course - exactly as Sir Edward Watkin had it all schemed-out in the 1890's!!
  2. Much of the PNR system (although not all) has closed down for 5 x years for major re-building and refurbishment. Tutoban Station is the main rail terminal in Manila and this is a view of the approach to the Station and the Depot outside.

  3. Here's one... From a recent weekend trip by Rail and London Underground, from Norwich (Norfolk, East Anglia), to Highbridge and Burnham in South West England: For some reason or other, Greater Anglia were not operating a direct service, all the way through from Norwich to London Liverpool Street. (There was a bus link in place but I really don't do those things...) So I went via Cambridge - stop, stop, stop all the way to London. After boarding a Gteat Western Railways train at London Padinhton, the usual dash down the Bristol Main Line came to an unceremonious end at Reading. The train departed from the Bristol Main Line, whereupon the GWR lived up to their old nickname of the Great Way Round! So instead of continuing down the Bristol Main Line, we went via Newbury, linking round just North of Westbury, then up through Bath Spar and Bristol Temple Meads - before heading back down towards Taunton In Devon... And to cap it all, when I tried to excape the racket of a load of drunken girls singing their heads off, I found the next carriage was completely blocked by a bunch of drunken football louts standing in the ailse shouting above the din of their own booring bloody football songs. The journey from hell!! There were seats available but I chose to stand in the lobby (or whatever you call it?!) by the doors at the end of the train carriage, from WSM to Highbridge... I couldn't take any more of it. Tagalog version... Lalo kapag weekend. Diverted ang mga train. Mabagal.
  4. Due to industrial action there are no trains at Aldershot in this night shot. However Aldershot Town FC are about to play Welling United at the nearby Recreation Ground (and win 3-0) and the floodlights and station lights show a colourful scene on a cold December night.
